The OTM 2011 federated conferences and workshops are organized in Crete, Greece (17~21 Oct. 2011)

DYSE won the reward of best exhibitor at ITEA & ARTEMIS Co-summit 2010!
NewsYesterday at the closing session of the ITEA2-Artemis Co-Summit (aka ITEA2 Symposium), among the nearly 60 stand at the ITEA2 floor, one project received the Exhibition Award 2010: it was: DiY Smart Experiences (DYSE)! VUB STARLab is one of the DYSE partners.
The approximately 500 visitors of the co-summit voted, and decided that we have done a great job bringing clear messages on the value DiYSE is progressively delivering.
Panel discussion (EI2N and SeDeS'2010)
NewsWe had a panel discussion on the role of Ontology Engineering (OE) in Enterprise Interoperability (EI) in the afternoon, on Oct. 27th, 2010. It lasted for an hour and half. Critical issues concerning OE and EI have been discussed. We really appreciate how active all the participants were to pose and answer questions.

Seminar "The Power and Limits of Relational Technology in the Age of Information Ecosystems" by Michael Brodie

On Wednesday the 20th of October 2010 at 15h in room D.2.06, Dr. Michael Brodie (Chief Scientist Verizon USA) will hold an interactive seminar entitled “The Power and Limits of Relational Technology in the Age of Information Ecosystems” in which he aims to discuss the ideas that he will present at a keynote carrying the same title later that month.

NewsDr. Ioana Ciuciu visited INRIA, Sophia-Antipolis, France and MIRALab, University of Geneva, Switzerland from 28 June - 7 July, based on the International Mobility Contract (IMC) of the 3DAH Project. The principle of the IMC is to give researchers the opportunity of working with a different partner team for a short period of time.

STARLab Christmas dinner
NewsOn Dec. 18, 2009, we had a STARLab Christmas dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant.
It was a great dinner. Everyone enjoyed it so much. Good food in huge quantities, good wine, beautiful waitresses, warm environment and above all ... good company!
The restaurant is called Kokob - the name is very exotic!

Dongya's goodbye party
NewsWe would like to thank Dr. Dongya Wu for her stay at the STARLab as a visiting scholar. During past 10 months, she has been always very helpful to every researcher.
Dr. Dongya Wu is currently the deputy chairman of network subcommittee of China national information Technology standardization technical committee (NITS) and the committeeman of China Computer Federation(CCF). During her stay at the STARLab, she has been actively working on the relations between ontology and international standardization.
On July 30th, 2009. We have organized a goodbye party + dinner for Dongya at the restaurant "Au Thé de Pékin " (丽晶大酒店). We have enjoyed very much the Dim Sum.
Visiting Professor Tharam S. Dillon
NewsOn June 5th, Professor Tharam S. Dillon visited STAR Lab. Professor Dillon had given a keynote on 'Modeling the Dynamics of Web-based Service and Resource-Oriented Digital Ecosystems' some days earlier at IEEE DEST 2009. To our great pleasure he was prepared to repeat the presentation here at the lab. This has led to some interesting discussions afterwards and hopefully will lead to some joint research in the near future.
Collibra at ICT 2008

STARLab's spinoff Collibra was selected as one of the 19 SMEs to exhibit at ICT 2008 in Lyon. The ICT 2008 event presented Europe's priorities for ICT research, development and funding. Many of STARLab's project partners also attended the event.

Semantic challenges in social software

On 16th April, 2008, Dr. Tanguy Coenen from VUB STARLab gave a speech "semantic challenges in social software" at IFIP workshop on “Emergent semantics in a social context”.
He has discussed social software and the way it is evolving, some semantic challenges which already exist or which could become relevant in the future, the aspects of the application of social software in organisations and provided a broad overview to incite further discussion during the workshop.
